Welcome to PVC 2008!
This is a collaborative group show entirely organized and hosted by myself [Holochron/Elektrik Puha Studios] and Third Gallery (434 Homer Street, 604.767.6258), in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Custom toy shows in Canada have primarily featured local artists, so I wanted to give an opportunity for the legions of extremely talented creators from the international vinyl toy realm a chance to showcase their talents in a relatively fresh and untapped arena, whilst continuing to highlight the incredible local talent from Vancouver and Canada.
The aim of the show is to simply bring more attention to the already established collectible/customizable toy scene in the Pacific Northwest, which in turn should hopefully draw more international artists and toy heroes/heroines to display their work on a constant basis up here in Vancouver, and in Canada in general.
Here's a link to the official Flickr preview page for the event so you can see some of the artists on board already:

This is an open-platform, multi-medium show, open to BOTH Vancouver and international artists.
We are currently enjoying some preflyer Vinyl Pulse coverage, and have already reaped the benefits of some continually excellent Toys'r'Evil coverage too; check here for updates >

Other coverage has been by word of mouth, with a 2-sided full color final flyer drop closer to the event date. KR board members and those participating in the project have been extremely helpful in getting the word out as well. This thread will remain a portfolio sneak peak of some of the pieces for the show, with a full Flickr album set dedicated to pictures of the show itself.
ANY AND ALL VANCOUVER TOY ARTISTS :
Please email your submission outline, your name and contact info (email is fine), the name of your submission (if applicable), the medium (3"/8"/20" Dunny, Knucklebear, Trexi, Qee, Bax Bear, whatever) and the materials used (Sharpie, acrylic, cake mix) by SUNDAY AUGUST 31 2008 to:
vancouvervinylshow@yahoo.com
I will be sending out emails to all artists around August 31 to check on progress, get feedback, and post updates where applicable. Feel free to submit stuff you've already made as well if time is a factor.
Since local artists will not need to send their submissions, they really do not need to be at the gallery until the actual night of the show, but a good guideline to have your piece completed by would be WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 15 2008, with the planned night for the show being :
SATURDAY NOVEMBER 15 2008
: all dates finalized! :
ANY AND ALL INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS :
The rundown and international submission guidelines [not set in stone, i'm open to work around all suggestions] are as follows :
- Open platform : whatever you got that you'd like to mutate, sculpey, reorganize or smear paint on, I'm down with! Submissions can also include past work never displayed before in Canada, or even if you have showcased in Canada and are limited on time, I'd still like to see what you've got ... I'm keeping the talent level at a very high calibre for sure, as evidenced by the current roster.
- This is a solo show curated and funded almost entirely by myself, and while its not my first event organization, it is my first art show. Current contributers have been exceptionally receptive to this fact, and so I've basically come to the understanding with all international artists that they will pay for the shipping to Vancouver [which if its a 3" custom shouldn't be more than CAD$10 internationally to Canada, or roughly CAD$20 for anything around the 8" mark]. I have already sent out my full contact information and address to the first batch of artists, and will be sending out submission confirmation details closer to August 31, 2008, to everyone invloved.
- Once the show has finished, I will be sending back all pieces that are not for sale, or do not sell, at cost to me. I think this is the fairest way to do things, because as much as I'd like to offer to pay for shipping both ways, its not feasible for this show.
- I am not making a single penny off this event. Its purely driven by my complete and utter mania over toys, for little and big kids alike. Third Gallery has stated that it would like a % fee [emails going out to artists ONLY with the exact %] for any items sold on site during the event - please factor this into any pricing structure that you wish to offer if you would like your piece sold on the night. All unsold pieces will be immediately [albeit one piece at a time] sent back their owners, bubblewrapped or accordingly protected before shipping.
Please email your submission outline (not your actual piece, just the concepts, backstory etc), your name and contact info (email is fine), the name of your submission (if applicable), the medium (3"/8"/20" Dunny, Knucklebear, Trexi, Qee, Bax Bear, whatever) and the materials used (Sharpie, acrylic, cake mix) by SUNDAY AUGUST 31 2008 to: :
vancouvervinylshow@yahoo.com
INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS ESPECIALLY: feel free to submit stuff you've already made as well if you feel time will be a factor in trying to get your piece to me in Vancovuer, Canada by:
WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 15 2008;
(or at the VERY VERY latest, SATURDAY NOVEMBER 1 2008 (two weeks before the show))
the planned night for the show being :
SATURDAY NOVEMBER 15 2008
There will be spaces for FORTY FIVE (45) artists. Please email your name, studio/company/affiliation, contact info, submission name (if applicable) and other important info to that email above.

*** We are also very excited to not only be displaying a custom toy from Camilla d'Errico, but also to host the product and merchandise launch of her new "MOUNTAINHEAD" line, including t-shirts, skatedecks and other super collectible things to take home and love/show off! GET EXCITED, THIS STUFF IS OFF THE HOOK! ***
Other features of the night include a VIP auction pre-session (8:30pm-10pm), live art jam, hand-cut stickers, commemorative t-shirts and customized New Era hats, live DJs, refreshments and many surprises, hourly door prizes, and whackloads of goodvibes. Bring an extra memory stick for your camera!
ANY suggestions, things I can do to make it better, or things to refine and change, PLEASE let me know! Just try and be constructive about it.
Thanks again, I'm very optimistic for this to turn out pretty solid. It will just take the support of the Vancouver toy community, and I know there's one out there... lets get visible!
